FINAL DESIGN “)

November 27, 2009

So, here is the final design for my magazine cover which is aimed at the 6th form students at my school. Im so pleased with how it all looks. I will no go onto evaluate it using the same questions i did before, getting feedback from students through a questionnaire as last time this way of gathering information was most helpful. I will also then analyse both of my magazine covers.

Possible titles for my magazine

November 25, 2009

I prefer the title InForm. I will use this as one word and both capital letter for the In and the Form. I think that it brings not only a relaxed informal aproach but also its relevant as its a magazine that will inform the 6th form students about all the goings on around school.  The header will be placed at the left as i think that this will be a little bit different from putting it just in the centre. I will include a barcode and price. I will include sub-headings of things that are in the magazine. I wont however include any more photos as i dont want it to look to crowded.

Chosen Photo

November 25, 2009

This is my chosen photo, i took the results from the poll and my own choice. I really like this as its really natural and shows the fun side of school which is what i want to aim for. I will use this as my full background and have the writing and title over the top. I will only use this photo as one big main photo.

Questionnaire Results

November 19, 2009

Questionnaire results:

I asked 10 people who consisted of parents of students attending secondary schools and other family members about what they though of the magazine and general information questions. Here are the results; I won’t include all of the answers as a lot of the people said similar things but I will include a few answers for each question to help give a feel of the sort of answers I got. I will also include a conclusion at the end.

Question 1:

  • Really nice, looks professional
  • I like it, it represents the school well
  • Effective use of colours and fonts

Question 2:

  • I like how the colours represent the school
  • I like how you have used just one photo at the bottom so it doesn’t look to tacky and busy to look like a magazine for parents.
  • I like how simple and plain it looks as you wouldn’t want to much stuff on the front of a magazine like this.

Question 3:

  • I don’t like that the barcode looks a little to big and looks a bit silly
  • I don’t like the slanted writing

Question 4:

  • I would probably change the layout of the font; I think it looses the touch of maturity when you have made the font slanted.
  • I would perhaps change the title, I think it seems too informal and fun for a magazine aimed at parents.
  • I would like to see more writing perhaps at the bottom as it looks a little plain there.

Question 5:

  • I would probably want this for free if it was coming home with the students.
  • Around £1 is an appropriate price if it was given out to those who wanted it.

Question 6:

  • I think it is very appropriate as you have used relevant colours and fonts and not made it look to busy.
  • I think this is relevant for the target market as its simple and not to busy it gives the right information in the right way.

Question 7:

  • I think reception would be the best place as then anyone who comes into the school can pick one up as this is the first and last place they will go to.

 Question 8:

  • Yes
  • Maybe but I don’t enter the school regularly so I would want to opportunity for one to be sent home.

 Question 9:

  • You have done really well, you can tell you have worked hard an thought about what would be appropriate to include in the magazine cover.
  • I really like how you have made it look professional with the barcode and plain texts and colours.

I found these results really helpful, the will be able to help me to figure out what to do for my next magazine cover and i have to remember what is appropriate for the target market and what they want to see in it. I might write another poll or questionnaire asking 6th form students what sorts of things they want to see in their magazine cover. As i can see from these results it is important to have feedback at all times to ensure i am including all the right things, so using this advice i might use a poll and display my ideas to find out what the students want for different things like pictures and colours etc.

Evaluation of Magazine Cover 1

November 19, 2009

Evaluation

In my magazine I used short pieces of text, I used this as it helps to attract the reader as it doesn’t look to busy. It is important to put small bits of information on the front as the readers want to know what is going to be in it. This concept is used a lot in media especially magazines. I wanted to only use one central photo as my magazine cover was aimed at parents and external visitors I didn’t want it to look to informal and busy by having loads of photos, for this I chose a picture of a student studying over a book I felt that this helped to show the hard work done at the school rather than students relaxing at lunch or break as this would be inappropriate for the target market and showing off the aspects of the school. Using just one central photo on magazine cover is also used a lot in the media as this can be seen as eye catching and bold by just have one thing to look at, it’s made more pleasant and simple to pick up and read.

I tried to get my media product to represent the hard working students of our school and what our school has to offer to the parents and the external visitors to the school. I did this by using simple fonts and colours which help relate to the school (using green and white.) I would prefer my product to be distributed by the school, hopefully this would help my target market feel that they don’t have to read it but they are given a choice, which is where they are more likely to read it. For example if this was sent home with students a lot of parents would simply chuck it away, but if they are given the choice they are more likely to want it.

My audience or target market for my magazine cover are the parents of students at the school and any internal or external visitors that may come into the school. I didn’t want to address my audience too formally as I didn’t want it to look like it was trying to hard to be professional. I attracted them by using small pieces of information and a simple colour scheme; I used a formal style font and kept it the same throughout to help keep it looking straightforward. I chose a relevant picture and used the school colours as a background to help represent the school.

I have learnt a lot about different technologies, I learnt how to use Photoshop which I have never used before so it was good receiving advice from my teacher and peers as to how to use the programme. I also found that exploring the different tools and trying different things helped me learn more about the programme. I now feel much more confident in using Photoshop however there are a lot of different things that I would like to learn which I want to include in my next magazine cover.
